Considering an international internship? Here's everything you need to know to navigate the website, get the information you need, and start your application.
Key points about the program:
- IE3 Global Internships is a program of the Oregon University System that has been sending students to intern abroad in full-time work experiences since 1996.
- Interns earn academic credit at their home university while abroad.
- The program is open to Juniors, Seniors, Post-Bac, and Grad students enrolled at eligible universities in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Utah and Montana. Students at Lane Community College are also eligible.
- As an intern you pay a program fee instead of paying tuition. The program fee includes up to 12 academic credits per term, orientation, support through the application process, internship placement, support throughout the internship, and international health insurance.
- You can apply most or all of your financial aid and may be eligible for scholarships.
- Once your application is accepted by the IE3 program (ie. After your interview on your home campus), the Regional Director will work with you to find the internship that best fits your goals and background. If you are not accepted by your first choice internship site, the Regional Director will work to identify either an alternate site or to discuss alternate timing for your first choice.
How to get started (step by step):
- Check out the internship listings and sign up for email updates about opportunities in your major, scholarships, and campus specific information.
- Meet with your campus internship advisor
- Start work on your application (note: application deadlines are approximately 6 months before the term starts)
- The application requires a cover letter and resume. Meet with Career Services at your home university. Read the suggestions for internationalizing your resume.
- Financial planning - complete financial planning worksheet, talk to your financial aid officer at your home university.
- Meet with an academic advisor in your major about credits for the internship and how they will apply to your program.
- Submit the application to your campus internship advisor.
- Interview with your campus internship advisor.
- The IE3 Regional Director will submit your file to your first choice internship.
