IE3
aspires to make international internships available and affordable. In
some cases, doing an internship abroad may cost less than staying on your
home campus for a term! Not all internship budgets are equal, however.
A month in London is more expensive than a month in Quito and plane fare
to Tanzania may be twice the price of a flight to Mexico.
Before investing time and effort in the application process, compare the
cost of your internship choices and the financial support available to
you. Take time to complete a financial
worksheet to help with your financial planning. Estimated costs of
living expenses, airfare and additional expenses are included in the cost
section of each position description.
Financial
Aid
Most forms of financial aid can be applied toward the costs of an internship.
Consult with a financial aid counselor and your IE3
campus advisor for more specific information about awards and eligibility.
Once you have been selected for an internship, an official budget will
be prepared by the regional director and sent to your campus with detailed
costs of the internship.
Scholarships

Freeman-ASIA,
Gilman, and
DAAD scholarships are some
of the awards that be applied to an IE3 Global
Internship. Additional scholarships may be available on your home campus.
Talk to faculty in your department, the career development office, and
the office of international programs to learn more about scholarship possibilities.
Note: Be aware that scholarship deadlines may be earlier than program
deadlines.
Internship
Costs
Estimated international travel and monthly living expenses for each internship
are included under the "Internship Costs" section of the position
description. Additional costs may include vaccinations, visas and passport
fees. If the host organization offers any stipends, salary or in-kind
contributions, these will be listed in the same section.
Note: Don't forget
to plan for "at home" costs such as car payments, loan payments
and other bills that may continue in your absence!

Application
Fees and Deposit
An initial nonrefundable application fee and a $250 deposit must be paid
at the time of application to the program. When we receive an official
confirmation of your internship placement from the host organization, the deposit will be applied
toward the program fee. If your internship placement or an acceptable
alternate is not available, the deposit will be refunded to you. For details
on IE3 program fees see Application
Information.
Refund Policy
· Once IE3 Global Internships has sent an applicant's file to the
host organization for consideration, the $250 deposit is no longer refundable
unless the applicant is not placed in an internship. The deposit will
be applied toward the balance of the program fee.
· Once IE3 receives a signed copy of the Participation Agreement
from you, you are considered an active participant in the program and
are responsible for paying the program fee. Should you choose to withdraw
for any reason, you must advise IE3 in writing. Your deposit will not
be refunded and you will be billed for the appropriate balance as determined
by the criteria below.
· If the applicant withdraws from the internship after signing
the participation agreement in the notification packet but prior to the
official internship start date as shown on the letter of appointment,
the applicant will be billed for 50% of the first term's program fee.
If IE3 receives written notice of withdrawal from the internship program
on or after the official internship start date as shown on the applicant's
letter of appointment, the applicant will be billed for 100% of the program
fee. If an applicant's appointment covers multiple terms and the applicant
decides not to complete one or more of the subsequent terms, the applicant
must notify IE3 in writing at least one month prior to the start of that
term. The applicant will then receive a refund of 50% of the charges due
for subsequent term(s).
