About the Organization
The Munster Express is a twice weekly newspaper that covers the areas of Waterford City and County, South Kilkenny, Carrick-on-Suir, South Tipperary, New Ross and South Wexford. Established in 1859, it is the largest selling newspaper in the south-east of Ireland serving a population of over 100,000.
Munster Express Online, is one of Ireland’s first provincial newspapers on the web, made its debut in May 1996. It now receives over 175,000 visits each month.
Job Description
Journalism Opportunities in the field researching and writing articles to be published by the newspaper. Interns will be expected to partake in research both primary and secondary in nature. Primary Research: Involves being out in the field conducting interviews (alternatively over the phone) or questionnaires. Some projects may involve observation, others may also require focus or research on a specific demographic for example local teenagers. Secondary Research: Involves using printed or online sources to gather information on a particular subject. Daily Activities: Attending various PR related events, for example a press release, product launch or venue opening. Researching and writing articles for the paper. Preparing or conducting research for other parties. Attending various meetings both internally and externally. Attending editorial meetings for the paper. Sourcing and researching new stories of relevance and interest to the paper (where appropriate).

Academic Background
Required: To be qualified or studying in the associated field of Journalism/English
Preferred: To have some previous experience of writing published material for example a piece in a college/school/local/academic publication.
Skills/Experience
To have experience or necessary skills and qualities to work both, individually and show initiative in your area and work within a team environment. Interviewing/Researching skills and techniques. Ability and confidence to articulate points and arguments in your written work.

English

A proficient level of Microsoft word is required. A computer and desk space will be provided. All required programs and software will be on the computer, ready for use.

IE3 Program Fee
The IE3 program fee is $3450 for the first term for both in-state and out-of-state students and $1000 for each additional term, regardless of credit earned.
