A variety of internship opportunities are available at the TFRI, including those with a focus on Watershed management, Nutrient Cycling and Decomposition (forest ecosystem process), Forestry Planning (remote sensing and GIS), Forest Fire Analysis, Pulping and Paper-making. With over 13,000 ha of experimental forest divided among 6 major stations, the Institute has comprehensive research facilities and provides excellent ambiance for forestry and forest products research.

About the Organization

The Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) was founded in 1895, during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. It was originally a nursery located within the perimeters of Taipei Botanical Garden. In 1949 it was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and received its current name. The headquarters of the Institute consists of the Forestry Research Center, Forest Products Hall, Wood Processing Plant, Demonstrative Paper Mill, Seed Cold Storage, eight research laboratory buildings, Herbarium and Forestry Exhibition Hall. With over 13,000 ha of experimental forest divided among 6 major stations, the Institute has comprehensive research facilities and provides excellent ambiance for forestry and forest products research.

Research concentrations include forest bio-diversity & resource conservation, integrated pest management and disease control, tree seed physiology, silvicultural systems, forest soil and tree nutrition, forest genetics and biotechnology, inventory and management planning, watershed management and extension.
