Siha Secondary School is located just outside the village of Sanya Juu, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Interns will assist in the teaching of physics, chemistry, biology, economics, general math, and English. Science teachers are especially appreciated. After interns gain experience in the classroom, they may be given increased teaching responsibilities. Interns must be prepared to live in a rural African community with minimal modern conveniences.
About the Organization
Siha Secondary School is a private co-educational day school affiliated with the Lutheran Church. This school has an agricultural specialization in addition to general education. There are approximately 600 students in middle school, secondary (grades 9-12) and advanced secondary school (grades 13-14), some are boarding and some are day students.
Siha Secondary School has a structured English program (British English). Students have 3 years of English prior to entering the school. English is the language of instruction and Swahili is taught as a subject.
Job Description
Interns will be supervised by the Headmaster at the secondary school. Interns will assist in the teaching of physics, chemistry, biology, economics, general math, and English. After interns gain experience in the classroom, they may be given increased teaching responsibilities. Note: There is a great shortage of science, including computer science, teachers in these schools.

IE3 Program Fee
The program fee* for the first term of any internship is $2950 - $3150. You do not pay tuition in addition to the program fee. Visit your University's IE3 page for details, costs for additional terms, and campus administrative fees.

Compensation
The secondary school will provide housing and the daily afternoon meal.
Additional Expense Information
Accommodation: IE3 interns will live in teacher quarters with 30-40 other Tanzanian teachers. Electricity is available in the housing facilities (240 volts -- converters and adapters will be needed if taking appliances from the US). Food is inexpensive to buy. Interns may eat with teachers in the afternoons at school. They can prepare their own meals at home or the schools can make arrangements for evening meals.
Siha Secondary School is located just outside the village of Sanya Juu, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Moshi, the nearest city with a population of about 700,000, is 30 km from Sanya Juu. A small medical dispensary is 1 km. from the schools and a government hospital, Kibongoto Hospital, specializing in the treatment of TB, is within 3 km. The surrounding area is at high elevation with low temperatures, down to 50 degrees in June, July and August, the drier period which follows the monsoon rains. From August to December there are more mild rains. December to March is the "summer" season. Heavy rains fall from March to June. Students will need boots. Students are advised to consult their campus health centers and the CDC web page for up-to-date information on health conditions and advice on malaria and other required or recommended immunizations.
