About the Organization

The Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod was founded as an institute in 1937 on the basis of foreign language courses which had been functioning from 1917. It provides LUNN, III building academic programs in languages and linguistics at the bachelor's, the master's and the doctoral level to students from all regions of Russia and is accountable directly to the Ministry of Education.

The LUNN ranks among the top institutions of higher education of its kind. Recently, along with 20 other top institutes in Russia, a special commission of the Ministry of Education granted it the status of a university.

The University offers Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, English (British and American) Turkish and Japanese languages, plus the complete spectrum of liberal arts courses.

The University is organized into four colleges of Education (English, German, French and Russian), a college of Translation, and a school of International Business. In addition to these there are divisions for distance learning, for access courses, and for other specialized pedagogical training. The faculty of the University is organized into 34 subject departments. Some of them operate in one college only, others on a cross-college basis.

Qualifications

Academic Background

Open to students of all majors, although students of Speech Communication, Foreign Language, TEFL, or Library Science may receive preference. PSU applicants receive priority consideration; other students are encouraged to apply.

Skills/Experience

Experience in library work and/or teaching English as a Foreign Language helpful.

Language Ability

Russian language skills equivalent to third year university study. Students must be native speakers of English.

The program fee* for the first term of any internship is $2950 - $3150. You do not pay tuition in addition to the program fee. Visit your University's IE3 page for details, costs for additional terms, and campus administrative fees.

*The program fee noted above reflects the anticipated fee increase that will go into effect for the Fall 2010 term and will apply to all terms thereafter.

Compensation

None. Interns may audit on-going classes, including Russian as a Second Language, at no charge. Individual tutoring in a variety of subjects, including Russian as a Second Language, will be available for a modest fee.
