About the Organization

Elimu Community Light, or ECOLI, is a Tanzanian-run NGO in the Arusha region of Tanzania. The mission of ECOLI is to enable, empower and enhance the capacity of marginalized groups by linking them with development opportunities and the social components necessary to alleviate the pernicious effects of poverty. ECOLI runs three preprimary centers, holds a teachers training course, and stays active within the community. Preprimary education is very important to ECOLI as they see students as the future of Tanzania. The Tanzanian education system is very different in comparison to America and interns will have the opportunity to work to understand the challenges many students and schools face.
