Work at a small, dynamic marketing firm located in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Develop marketing studies, strategies and plans to expand agricultural commodity markets and trade within the North American Free Trade Agreement framework. Stipend provided. Strong Spanish skills required. 5-6 months.

About the Organization

Grupo PM was founded in 1990 as a marketing and advertising company to advantage of the trade opening in 1986 when Mexico first joined the GATT and later on, the NAFTA, reassuring its position as an attractive market for U.S. agricultural products. It is a small company of about 32 employees, mostly young professionals. Represents the American Peanut Council, CA Cherry Advisory Board, CA Cling Peach Advisory Board, CA Kiwifruit Commission, CA Strawberry Commission, CA Tomato Commission, CA Tree Fruit Agreement, Cranberry Marketing Committee, Michigan Apple Committee, US Potato Board, Pear Bureau NW, Pet Food Institute, US Apple Export Council.

Grupo PM has created a team of supporting agencies with the experience and knowledge that various agriculture associations need, covering the areas of market research, advertising, merchandising, public relations, and promotions in supermarket chains. The office is located in an upper middle-class residential neighborhood in the attractive city of Cuernavaca.

Job Description

Assist with the administration of U.S. marketing programs implemented in Mexico and Central America by participating closely with the planning and development of every market activity in each individual marketing plan and report. The dress code is conservative, business casual.

Academic Background

International marketing, preferably connected to agriculture, and related majors such as Agricultural Business Management, Resource Economics, Business, Marketing

Skills/Experience

Strong computer/office skills.

Language Ability

High degree of proficiency in Spanish equivalent to end of 4th year university work or more.

Other Requirements

Previous study abroad preferred.

Additional Expense Information

Students should budget approximately $550-$650 a month for rent, food, local transportation and personal supplies; $200 of which is covered by employer. Budget additional funds for weekend travel around the country.
