Depending on their skills and the organization's needs, interns may be involved in supporting a youth conservation club, training on HIV/AIDS or leadership skills, or assisting with eco-tourism and small agricultural businesses. This internship is offered in collaboration with Village Volunteers.

About the Organization

EDYM was established in 1992 with aim of protecting the ecosystem and addressing the degradation of the Weto range. Even though EDYM is seen as an environmental NGO, its activities cover a wide range of programs including health, education, eco-tourism and agriculture.

  • Gives hands-on training in agriculture and sustainable livelihood to the youth and the communities
  • Reaches out to the less privileged kids and orphans by providing housing and parental care facilities inform of orphanage.
  • Enhances the Eco-tourism potentials of the area.

EDYM was awarded by the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology of Ghana in 1998 as the most active Environmental NGO in the Volta Region. In 2004, EDYM again was one of the three Environmental NGOs recognized in the Country by the Ministry of Environment and Science at the first National Environmental Journalist Award Night

EDYM may not be able to provide logistics such as laptops and cameras; it is therefore suggested that interns bring along these and any tool that will enhance performance.

IE3 Global Internships and Village Volunteers are working in collaboration to provide this internship opportunity to IE3 interns. The two organizations offer complementary services. IE3 provides pre-departure skills orientation, credit arrangement, insurance and application/placement support. Village Volunteers provides site-specific information and planning, a direct connection with the host organization, and local accommodations and support in the village. Village Volunteers is more than an internship placement organization. They are directly involved in the development projects in the villages where they work, provide capacity building support to local community efforts. In such small villages, careful management of the impact and role of interns is particularly important. The collaborative arrangement between Village Volunteers and IE3 helps ensure strong intern preparation and support as well as a receptive and productive internship environment in the village where interns will live and work.

Because of the different types of support provided by IE3 and Village Volunteers, you will be asked to complete both organizations’ application materials as part of the application process. You will apply first to the IE3 program and the Africa regional director will then provide additional information about the next application steps. Interns not interested in the joint program may consider applying to another IE3 internship or to Village Volunteers directly.
