ECOLI aims to build the capacity of communities, especially in Early Childhood Care and Development and issues pertaining to youth and women's social and economic development. Interns may have the opportunity to work in the classroom with the pre-primary children, the teacher training program, or in non-profit management and capacity building.
About the Organization
ECOLI’s vision is a developed society with quality education. They aim to build the capacity of communities, especially in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) and issues pertaining to youth and women's social and economic development hindrances.
They also do work in the areas of policy analysis, lobbying, and advocacy for the needs of marginalized groups in social economic and education. ECOLI operates three Early Childhood Care and Education Units in Arusha. In the mornings they hold pre-primary classes for children and in the afternoons ECOLI holds education courses and seminars for pre-primary teachers from various wards in Arusha municipality.
Job Description
Internship duties vary based on intern’s skills and interests and ECOLI’s needs.
Interns may have the opportunity to work in the classroom with the pre-primary children, the teacher training program, or in non-profit management and capacity building manner. In the classroom an intern would be working as a teacher for young children. The teacher training program presents the opportunity for the intern to teach adult populations or assist in the development of teacher training materials and curriculum with a focus on early childhood education. As for capacity building, the intern may be asked to assist in community outreach and advocacy, curriculum development, grant and proposal writing, and program management.

Academic Background
Coursework in social services, education, gender studies or similar fields.
Skills/Experience
Experience working with children, youth and/or women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Knowledge of early childhood development and education. Program management, grant writing, advocacy experience and experience with group facilitation are also desired.
Language Ability
English is sufficient for this internship but some experience in Swahili is helpful.

IE3 Program Fee
The program fee* for the first term of any internship is $2950 - $3150. You do not pay tuition in addition to the program fee. Visit your University's IE3 page for details, costs for additional terms, and campus administrative fees.
*The program fee noted above reflects the anticipated fee increase that will go into effect for the Fall 2010 term and will apply to all terms thereafter.
