The Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) is an independent, non-profit organization representing, promoting and developing U.S. business in Chile and fostering trade between the two countries. Interns will work within the Research Department on a variety of projects. Strong Spanish skills required.

The Chilean American Chamber of Commerce is an independent, non-profit organization representing, promoting & developing US business in Chile & fostering trade and investment between both countries. Founded in 1918, the AmCham has some 700 member companies, and represents 18% of the private GDP in Chile and over 85% of US investments in Chile. AMCHAM provides members with benefits & services including networking, lobbying, commercial info, source for contacts, organizations of trade missions & seminars, monthly publication, invitations, & access. AmCham is an influential voice in the business community.
Job Description
Interns will work within the Research Department in a variety of tasks including: -Researching specific questions that members and other companies have about import/export procedures, regulations and commercial contacts; -Carrying out larger research projects related to the U.S.- Chile Free Trade Agreement; -Helping to maintain the Chile-US Free Trade Agreement website -Attending committee meetings (some 10 a month) dealing with a wide range of topics and issues concerning business in Chile; and -Other special projects based on the interests and knowledge of the intern.
Interns will be supervised by the Director of the Research Department who will also want to take advantage of special interests and knowledge that interns might bring related to the Research Department's work. The intern will agree upon a work plan with the Director and performance will be reviewed periodically.

IE3 Program Fee
The program fee* for the first term of any internship is $2950 - $3150. You do not pay tuition in addition to the program fee. Visit your University's IE3 page for details, costs for additional terms, and campus administrative fees.
*The program fee noted above reflects the anticipated fee increase that will go into effect for the Fall 2010 term and will apply to all terms thereafter.

Compensation
Small allowance for work-day lunches and local transportation of 60,000 pesos monthly (approximate $85-$90 USD per month, depending on exchange rate).
Additional Expense Information
Interns will receive assistance in locating suitable, safe and convenient housing. There are options to live with a homestay family, rent a room in a home or apartment or to rent a furnished apartment. Generally, rents run from about $190-$350 per month depending on the option, locale, etc. There is a one-time fee charged by a local agency to arrange housing and to assist with any issues that arise during your stay. The cost is $98 for interns staying for one term and $140 for two terms.
Interns should budget $550-$650 per month for rent, food and living expenses. Students planning to travel extensively on weekends or go out frequently should budget additional funds.
The Chilean Government charges a one-time $100 reciprocity tax upon entry into Chile.
AmCham Chile is located in the capital city of Santiago in the upper class neighborhood of Las Condes. There are about 8 million people living in Santiago. It is a modern, urban environment with ease of transportation via the metro and buses. There are many activities in the area from museums and nightlife to shopping and extreme sports.
