Interns at ACOSVO will aid in the pursuit of its goals of providing professional development to its members throughout Scotland and building relationships between the Scottish government and key individuals in non-profit or charitable organizations. Interns will help to develop and market high profile events, source venues and speakers, develop publicity materials, manage event budget, collaborate in the creation of a marketing plan, and work in a small team environment. The intern may also create an online directory of learning opportunities for ACOSVO members or develop a physical and online resource library.

ACOSVO (The Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organizations) is a unique forum for chief officers in the voluntary sector in Scotland, which promotes excellence in leadership and management.

Our Mission
ACOSVO is a unique forum for Chief Officers in the Voluntary sector in Scotland, which promotes excellence in leadership and management. We provide professional development opportunities, through a range of services and activities, to a diverse association membership across Scotland. We form a combined voice on matters of senior management and governance in the voluntary sector and are guided by our members to influence change where required. We are member-led in our management through our Board and in our practice through ongoing dialogue and consultation directly with them.
We are based in central Edinburgh in an open plan, modern office that is a base for a wide range of charities and social enterprises. We also hold events across Scotland on a range of topics. We have been in existence since September 2000 and now have over 300 members across Scotland. This year we ran over 50 events, including master-classes, networking events, discussion dinners, conferences and seminars. We are a strategic partner of the Scottish government and are pivotal in influencing policy and building links between key players in the sector and policy-makers in the government.

Job Description
Intern Opportunities
In all the roles detailed below, there will be an opportunity to gain insight into the inner-workings of the organization and an overview of the task involved. All placements will include and introduction to ACOSVO and development of a mutually agreed upon work plan.
The opportunities detailed below could each be chosen as a separate task, or could be grouped together to suit the time scale and interests of the intern.
Event Management
This opportunity would include all aspects of event management including securing a venue, enlisting sponsors, recruiting speakers, managing event budget, and the creation of publicity materials and a marketing plan.
Funding Research, market analysis and funding applications
This opportunity would include research available funding sources, identifying potential projects and where appropriate preparing funding applications. This position will provide the intern with a high level of understanding of the strategic plan for ACOSVO and mapping against potential funding and possible projects
Directory of high level learning opportunities for non-profit Chief Officers
This opportunity would include research into relevant learning opportunities, mapping of leadership training and development opportunities in Scotland and analysis of those most appropriate. This information would then be developed into an online, searchable directory of opportunities for ACOSVO members.
Development of Resource Library
This opportunity would include identification of relevant learning resources (both hard copy and online), cataloging, promoting, and developing a loan process for ACOSVO members.

IE3 Program Fee
For spring term 2012, the program fee for the first term of any internship is $2950 - $3150. The expected program fee beginning summer term 2012 is $3450 for the first term. You do not pay tuition in addition to the program fee. Visit your University's IE3 page for details, costs for additional terms, and campus administrative fees.

Additional Expense Information
Interns must obtain a BUNAC Internship in Britain authorization ($750) and a tier 5 UK visa ( £125). The total processing time for these documents is about eight weeks.
The cost of living in Edinburgh is fairly expensive. Costs listed above reflect a conservative and rather frugal lifestyle. Budget for additional money if you have plans to travel around the UK or Europe, dine out frequently, or take full advantage of the social and entertainment opportunities that Edinburgh has to offer.
