Academic Credit

You’ll want to plan your academics carefully to meet your graduation requirements and ensure that your internship is a success. Discuss your internship plans with the academic advisor for your major and look at class schedules and graduation requirements to determine the best timing for your internship.

Your academic advisor should be to tell you:

  • if internship credits will fulfill graduation and degree requirements.
  • the academic requirements for internship credit.
  • information about planning your graduation.

Academic credit is granted by a professor on your home campus, but registration happens through the office of international programs. Talk to your IE3 campus advisor about academic credit requirements and the registration process.

Your IE3 advisor should be able to tell you:

  • the minimum credits required for financial aid.
  • how to register for the term following your internship abroad.
  • what paperwork you need to submit to ensure that you are registered and earn credit for your internship.

You’ll also want to speak with your IE3 Regional Director about any specific academic preparation you need, including fine tuning technical skills or conducting background research to be an asset to the organization where you intern.
