Job Description:

Interns will be supervised by the Headmaster at the secondary school.  Interns will assist in the teaching of physics, chemistry, biology, economics, general math, and English.  After interns gain experience in the classroom, they may be given increased teaching responsibilities.  Note:  There is a great shortage of science, including computer science, teachers in these schools.

Interns must be prepared to live in a rural African community with minimal modern conveniences.

Additional Information:

Siha Secondary School is located just outside the village of Sanya Juu, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Moshi, the nearest city with a population of about 700,000, is 30 km from Sanya Juu.  A small medical dispensary is 1 km. from the schools and a government hospital, Kibongoto Hospital, specializing in the treatment of TB, is within 3 km.  The surrounding area is at high elevation with low temperatures, down to 50 degrees in June, July and August, the drier period which follows the monsoon rains.  From August to December there are more mild rains.  December to March is the "summer" season.  Heavy rains fall from March to June.  Students will need boots.  Students are advised to consult their campus health centers and the CDC web page for up-to-date information on health conditions and advice on malaria and other required or recommended immunizations.
