Internship Description
About the Organization:
Work with a variety of agencies in the state of Tasmania in the field of tourism, wildlife and parks managment. Placements could include working on research projects with University of Tasmania Recreation and Tourism students. Potential areas of interest are (but are not limited to):
*Wildlife tracking and management
*Park use and management
*User impact surveys
*Sustainable tourism programs
*Ranger and interpretive positions

Intern Qualifications
Academic Background:
Environmental Sciences; Forest Resource Management; Natural Resource Management; Marine Biodiversity; Coastal Management or Planning; Fisheries; Anthropology; Biology; Life Sciences, Animal Sciences
Skills/Experience:
It is extremely important that participants have a high level of physical fitness and agility and be able to accurately record data. Previous camping and backpacking experiences a plus. Interns should have knowledge of map and compass use. Students must be capable of strenuous work and long days. Duties can be demanding and physical in nature. Interns may be walking long distances carrying heavy packs. Projects involve being out in all weather conditions. Interns may be camping at times or staying in small huts, thus they must be able to get along with several people in tight living conditions.

English proficiency required
Other Requirements:
Students will work with the Oceania Regional Director and host site in Tasmania to obtain an Occupational Trainee visa for Australia.
Internship Costs
Program Fees:
The program fee includes tuition, internship site development
and placement, pre-departure orientation, international health insurance, internship monitoring and follow-up.

None
Accommodation:
Shared accomodation; intern responsible for accomodation expenses
International Travel:
$1500-$2000 US
Cost of Living:
The estimated living costs per month (e.g. shared accommodation, food and local transport, etc.) would be in the range of AU$1,000 – AU$1,200 per month (ca. US$950/month)
Housing: AU$600/month
Food: AU$400/month
Visa/Work Permit: The Australian Government does not allow interns to work.
Local transportation: AU$50/month
Miscellaneous: AU$150/month
Budget Note:
Applicants should use these estimates for preliminary budgeting
purposes.
IE3 will issue an official budget after acceptance by the
host organization.

Up to 12 credits available as per arrangement with supervising department.
