Working With IE3

Are you interested in having an IE3 Intern at your organization? Click here for the contact information of the regional director you should work with to establish and promote an internship opportunity.

Any internship requires that we develop a position description and post it on the IE3 website so that students and their faculty advisors learn about the opporutnity. A position description includes information about your organization, the duties the intern will carry out, your expectations for skills and abilities the intern will bring, and financial information (including a budget for local monthly expenses). All interns earn credit on their home campus while they are abroad, so the position description needs to be detailed enough for their professors to understand why what they will be doing is worth academic credit. See Creating an Internship for more information.

You will only receive information about interns who qualify based on your own description of the requirements. The interns are screened at their home campus and again by the regional director. The regional director will work with you directly to determine which candidate(s) will be best. Once you have made a decision on a candidate, the regional director will put the intern in touch with you to finalize arrival details. The regional director then oreints the intern on details such as organizational culture, visa issues, health and safety, travel, and culture. Any information you can provide to assist in the orientation will help the intern be more effective. There is also information on our website for hosts working with international interns. See Hosting an Intern.

Once the intern arrives on site, you need to provide an orientation to the workplace and have a workplan discussion with your intern. The workplan will be the intern's guide for his or her internship. A good workplan includes information about the tasks the intern will be responsible for, resources that are available, and a timeline for completing the tasks. See Orienting an Intern for more information.

At the end of the internship, we need an evaluation of the intern. This can be completed online (see Evaluating an Intern).

If you have any questions about the selection process, hosting an intern, or developing a position description, please contact the regional director.
