IE3 Internship site wins the StayClassy Awards for Small Chairty of the Year

Noted on October 3, 2011 by Giustina P. in

My name is Kenny Short and I am a 2007 IE3 Alumus and graduate of the University of Oregon in Eugene. As a former IE3 intern for Long Way Home (LWH) and continuing LWH supporter, I am so proud to be a part of this victory for the organization. It is a testament to the type of team and community LWH has cultivated, both in Guatemala and in the US, that we were able to win this award. Now, its all about putting the award money and international recognition to the best possible use for our community and project in San Juan Comalapa!

StayClassy Awards:

LWH Named "Small Charity of the Year"

Matt PaneitzOn September 17, Long Way Home was awarded the title of "Small Charity of the Year" by StayClassy, an online Social Fundraising platform sponsoring the largest philanthropic awards event in the United States. Matt Paneitz, LWH Executive Director, and two LWH volunteers, Ben Smith and Danny Paz, accepted the award at the 3rd Annual Classy Awards in San Diego, California (pictured right).

Beginning on July 25, the public had the chance to vote for their favorite small charity of the year...and they chose Long Way Home! The award was given to the organization whose work best demonstrates that "big things come in small packages,” an apt description of the mission and impact that Long Way Home is working to accomplish.

Being named "Small Charity of the Year" gives LWH a big push in the right direction. With this recognition LWH hopes to grow its donor base and volunteer pool. The financial reward guarantees the Earthship Biotecture build, scheduled for November, will begin as projected. LWH is grateful to all supporters who voted for us! As always, we couldn't do what we do without our friends, volunteers and fans.
