Choosing a Local Path

My internship with Pathways to Development in Phnom Penh, Cambodia was a wonderful combination of never knowing what to expect adventures, heartwarming smiles, learning about and immersing into a new culture, seeing different perspectives, and understanding the challenges adherent when working to help the very poor in a developing country. It was this combination of daily thought-provoking experiences that made my three months in Cambodia so special. Looking back upon some of my best times one thing stands out: they were all experiences I shared with local Khmer friends.

Transitions Back Home

Taking a morning walk through the beautiful streets of Bantry Bay, Cape Town on my last day in South Africa was the perfect ending to an incredible 10 weeks in South Africa. Reflecting on my internship filled me with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, motivation, and also a bit of sadness. South Africa had become my home for the past three months, and I couldn’t believe I had to leave the most beautiful place I had ever been to return to my regular life in Oregon, especially right when I was finally feeling a sense of belonging.

A Summer in Cape Town

After five weeks of interning in South Africa, I am amazed at the ways in which I have grown professionally and personally. I remember sitting at the airport in Portland, waiting to depart for Cape Town, feeling scared out of my mind! What had I gotten myself into? All of the warnings my family and friends had instilled in my brain were making themselves apparent. Amman, Jordan; Eye-opening experiences

Amanda Duran#2 Interning in Amman has been a positive experience so far. The Center tends to be very accommodating when it comes to students being able to experience Amman outside of the office, so I have been able to make many friends and explore the city.
