Selection Process

Once your completed application has been received, you will have an interview on your home campus. An interview report with a recommendation regarding your application will be sent to the IE3 Global Internship Regional Director. The Regional Director will then contact you and send your information to the internship site.

Candidates are selected based on the clarity of their goals as described in the application essays, cover letter, academic preparation, and previous professional and international experience. Host organizations make the final decision regarding all applications. If your first choice internship is not available, the Regional Director will work to find an alternate placement.

The following screening criteria will be used to evaluate your application:

Appearance of Application Materials

All materials should be neatly typed and grammatically correct. While spelling errors will not disqualify you from consideration, they do reflect upon your abilities and may influence the ultimate decision on your application. Remember, the application is your first step into the career world and should present a high level of professionalism, particularly the presentation of your resume. In preparing your application, use all resources available to you, i.e. the Career Center, internship advisors, etc.

Completeness of Information

You should ensure that your application contains all the materials requested, including the appropriate application form, essays reflecting your internship goals and your background, letters of reference from faculty or employers, a resume highlighting your professional and international experience, and transcripts. See Application Information for complete details.

Punctuality

All application materials should arrive by the application due date. This may require you to request materials from various campus departments well before the application date in order for them to produce the forms in time.

Relevancy to Studies and Career

IE3 Global Internships seeks to place students in internships relevant to their degree studies and career goals. The internship is meant to provide a transition between the two. Applicants who are solely seeking an international experience regardless of the type of work are less likely to be selected.

Preparation for Experience

Applications must show the experiences that have prepared you for an internship. International internships require high levels of motivation and independence. Your application should clearly demonstrate your knowledge of and skills relevant to the position description.

Campus/Departmental Support

The forms submitted by your references are important in evaluating your abilities and appropriateness for an internship. Discuss your internship goals with your references and academic department. Demonstrating support from your home campus for your internship will improve your chances of placement.

Fit for Position

Based on qualifications listed in the application and evaluations provided, the regional director will seek the student who best fits the position in terms of skills, experiences, maturity, language abilities, personality, academic performance and related areas.

Interview with Campus Coordinator

The campus coordinator's assessment of your interpersonal skills, professionalism, motivation, focus, and suitability for the internship site will weigh heavily in the selection process.
