Navigating the Online Application
IE3 uses an online application and data management system called Application Gateway. To submit an application for an internship or an IE3 scholarship, you must create a student account within this system. Once you have created this account, you may begin the application process. Please note that you may use the same student account for all applications you submit to IE3.

A: You will be prompted to set up a student account when you begin your first application to an IE3 internship or scholarship. Simply click on the "Apply Now" button on the description page of the internship to which you wish to apply and the system will guide you.
A: Student accounts are created in only a few moments. The system will ask you to submit your name, email address and date of birth, and will then immediately send you a log-in password by email. When you log-in for the first time, you will be asked to answer a few short questions to complete your basic profile. This should take no more than 3-5 minutes. Once you have done this, you can enter your application and start working!
A: A completed IE3 application includes:
- Formal cover letter
- Professional resume
- A personal essay about your professional development and goals
- Two recommendations
- Several basic application questionnaires
- Non-refundable IE3 Application Fee of $25
- IE3 Program Deposit of $250
- Campus fee – varies by campus
A: No, you are able to enter and exit the system and work on individual application items as many times as you would like before the application deadline. To do this, simply "Save" the item you are working on and return to it when you are ready to complete it. Please note that if you "Submit" an application item, it is marked as complete (a check mark appears) and indicates to IE3 that it is ready for review. Once you submit an application item you are no longer able to make changes or edits. If you mistakenly submit application items before they are ready for review, contact IE3 staff.
A: If you are no longer able to access your application materials, your application has been locked. Applications become locked once the application deadline has passed. Please contact IE3 staff for more information.
A: As you complete each item in your application, a check mark will appear next to it indicating that it has been submitted or received and is ready for review by IE3 and your campus adviser. Materials submitted to the IE3 office may take several days to be received and entered into the system. When you have completed your entire application, your application file will indicate that it is "Complete" and the system will notify IE3 staff that it is ready for review.
A: Yes, your campus adviser is able to read your application in its entirety, and can communicate with IE3 about your application via the online application system.
A: On the log-in page, click the link that says "Forgot your password?". From here you will be directed to a password reset page. Enter the email address you used to create your student account and click "Reset Password." Your password is reset, and a temporary password is sent to your email account. Make sure to set a new password the next time you log-in.
A: Those e-mails are coming from the IE3 central office, and some of them are automated. If you have questions about application submissions, billing, orientation or any other general program information, please contact the IE3 Program Assistant. If you have site-specific questions, contact the appropriate IE3 regional director, or your campus adviser if your question relates to campus matters including your interview, financial aid and credit registration.
A: All materials you submit via the system are accessible by your regional director. If you would like to speak with your regional director, you may contact him/her directly via email or phone. You can find contact information on our webpage.
A: In the questionnaires section of your online application you will be prompted to submit these documents. You can either upload them as attachments, or save them directly in text format in the WYSIWYG box on the application page. If you choose to upload them as attachments, you may use the space provided to include any additional notes or comments. All notes and comments will be reviewed as part of your application.
A: You are required to submit two recommendations (one professional and one academic). The online system enables you to deliver your recommendation requests electronically (preferred), by mail, or in person. If you submit an electronic request, respondents will receive an e-mail with instructions for submitting recommendations directly to the online system. You may also print the recommendation form and provide a hard copy to your references. Please be sure to provide them with the appropriate return address information (we suggest that you give your reference a stamped, addressed envelope). With each method, we encourage you to maintain an open line of communication and provide all needed information to your recommenders in advance (e.g., deadline and program information, submission information and address, your contact information, etc.). When a completed recommendation is received, a check mark will appear next to the recommender's name on your application page.
A: All material submissions, including your program deposit and application fee should be made payable to IE3 Global Internships. Please mail them directly to the IE3 administrative office located at:

Your program deposit and IE3 application fee must be paid with two separate checks, but both checks can be mailed to us simultaneously. All campus-specific fees should be sent directly to your home campus. For more information, please consult your campus-specific webpage.
A: Your application information will be stored on a secure server. The only people who will have access to your information will be you, your campus adviser, and IE3 staff, including regional directors and program staff. We will share pertinent information, including your cover letter, essay and resume with host site staff so that they may evaluate you for acceptance. Once you are accepted to the IE3 program, we will collect information including your address and emergency contact details which will be shared with billing staff at your university and at Oregon State University. We will respect all FERPA regulations and keep your information confidential within our system.
A: No, you do not have to fill out a separate application. You can select up to three site choices in the same application. Once you have been approved by your campus adviser and regional director, IE3 will attempt to place you in your first choice internship site. If that is not possible, we will contact you to ask if you wish to be placed at your second (or third) choice site.
A: If you are planning to spend a second term (or more terms) at the same site, you do not need to submit another application to stay at that site. There is a question in the application where you can indicate any additional terms you wish to spend at your internship site. However, if you are requesting placement to a different site for your second term, you will need to submit an additional application.
A: You will need to contact your regional director directly to do this. Also, you should notify your campus adviser. Please do this as soon as you are aware of your plans. Please note that once you have submitted your complete application (including deposit), your deposit is no longer refundable unless you are denied by IE3 or the site to which you have applied.
A: Please allow 7-10 business days for IE3 to process material submissions.
