Financing an Internship

IE3 aspires to make international internships available and affordable for students. Our philosophy is that students can't afford NOT to have professional and international experience prior to graduating. Not all internship budgets are equal, however. A month in London is more expensive than a month in Quito and plane fare to Tanzania may be twice the price of a flight Mexico.

Before investing time and effort in the application process, students should compare the cost of their internship choices and the financial support available to them. For planning, we provide a financial worksheet that students can use to estimate the total cost of their internship. Estimates of living expenses, airfare and additional expenses are included in the cost section of the position description.

Financial Aid
Most forms of financial aid can be applied toward the costs of an internship. IE3 provides an official budget for students who have been accepted to an internship. Please discuss financial aid planning with students and the Financial Aid office on your campus. To see a sample budget sheet, click here.

Scholarships
Click here to see a list of scholarships that can be applied toward IE3 Global Internships. We are constantly adding to this list. Students applying for scholarships and internships should be sure to plan well in advance and contact the regional director of the internship. Additional scholarships may be available on your home campus.

Internship Costs
Estimated international travel and monthly living expenses for each internship are included under the "Internship Costs" section of the position description. Additional costs may include vaccinations, visas and passport fees. If the host organization offers any stipends, salary or in-kind contributions, these will be listed in the same section.

Program Fees
The IE3 program fee includes:
Tuition
Internship placement
Visa application assistance
Pre-departure orientation
Internship monitoring

Program fee does not include airfare, housing, meals, or visa fees.

Application Fees and Deposit
An initial nonrefundable application fee and a $200 deposit must be paid at the time of application to the program. When we receive an official confirmation of a student's
internship placement from the host organization, the deposit will be applied toward the program fee. If the internship placement or an acceptable alternate is not available, the deposit will be refunded. For details on IE3 program fees see Application Information.
