Academic Preparation
An internship is a chance for you to apply your coursework and field of study to real world issues. The terms just prior to your internship are therefore the perfect time to take classes that will provide you with theory and skills you will need in your internship. To help you plan your academics, think about the following:
- Look at the position description and read final reports from previous interns to determine what courses will be most helpful. Do you need statistics, cultural theory, health information?
- Are there language courses offered that will help you be more productive? Some of these might be self-study or not for credit.
- Talk to your academic advisor to plan courses and prerequisites so you can have a smooth re-entry to school when you return. There is nothing as frustrating as realizing a course you need is only offered a full year after you return!
